BUET EEE Alumni Initiative

Background & history

Honoring Late Prof. Mohammad Ali Choudhury through the EEE Alumni Excellence Award and Prof. Mohammad Ali Choudhury Memorial Award.

Launched on 29 January 2021, the EEE Alumni Excellence Award and Prof. Mohammad Ali Choudhury Memorial Award honor Late Prof. Mohammad Ali Choudhury (Head and Dean, EEE, BUET), who envisioned alumni–department collaboration before his passing in 2018. In a career of more than 30 years at BUET he was known for teaching excellence and dedication to academic and research improvement.

The awards began from his earlier vision of a merit-based undergraduate scholarship; alumni and the Department of EEE relaunched the program to meet present postgraduate research needs. The fundraising target is US$500,000 by 2025, contributed by EE/EEE alumni of BUET/EPUET/AEC and supporters of the cause.

This postgraduate fellowship portal supports the department’s scholarship awards: full-time M.Sc. Engg. and Ph.D. (EEE) students receive financial support so they can devote more time to research, produce high-quality publications, practice proposal writing, and deepen ties between alumni abroad and active BUET faculty and students.

Power Electronics Laboratory. Twenty percent of contributions, up to BDT 50 lakh, supports the Mohammad Ali Choudhury Power Electronics Laboratory, for which the Department of EEE has a BUGS-approved proposal.
